THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION
1. The Kwangsi-Vietnam Border Column of the Chinese Communist Army is commanded
by TANG Tsai yu (0781/2088/3731),1 The column, which is composed of three detach-
ments, an artillery battalion, and a service battalion, has a total strength of
14,000 men. It is equipped with eight howitzers, six machine guns, and rifles of
Chinese, Japanese, and United States manufacture.
2. The three detachments are disposed as follows:
a. First Detachment, under WANG Shao-fei (3769/1421/7378) with 49000 men, is in
the general area of Lang Son and Dong Dang.
b. Second. Detachment, under CHOU Yu-t'ien (0719/7183/3944) with 3,500 men,
is in the Chennankuan (106-41, 21-58) areao
c.. Third Detachment, under MA I-hsing (7456/0001/5887) with 3,200 men, is in
the P'inghsiang (106-44, 22-06) and Naling (107-09, 22-48) areas.

1., Comment, as of April 1950 TANG Tsai-yu was
deputy commander of the 8 Military u - strict and was to head a military
group being speciall trained by Soviet advisers to infiltrate Vietnam and
assist HO Chi Minh. in April 1951 TIANG was in charge
of collecting military information for the Mao Chun operations unit in
North Indochina.
