THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION
The Sovrompetrol organization started oil prospecting in the Mangalia region
during July 1951. The project was undertaken when oil was discovered in the
village of Shablallocated in Bulgaria in the vicinity of the Bulgarian-
Rumanian border.
2. Thus far, five shafts were sunk in the bian.galia region; the results seem to
have justified further investments since deeper drilling equipment was being

a. At a point called Herghelia IVIangal.iei (The IMTangalia Horse Breeding Farm)
located north of the Mangalia railroad station. A depth of 170 meters
has been reached at this site.
b. At a point called Cotul Vacii where the drilling has reached a depth of
369 meters.
Co At a point called Costinesti where the drilling has reached a depth of
400 meters.
d. At a point called Conacul Veohi where the drilling has reached a depth
of 360 meters.
e. At a point. called Varna Veoh.e.on the Bulgarian-Rumanian Border. The depth
at this site is not known.
4. There are also drilling sites at various points called the Rope Factory (Fabrica
de Franghii). Capul Balti.i9 the 2 Mai,, in the vicinity of Nangalia.
