Skopljeo The Battalion is composed-of nine companies9 four of which have
headquarters in Bitolj., DJevdjelijaj, Debar and Konopiste0 The Command-
ing Officer~of the Battalion is Colonel Marko Srdioa the Political
Commissar is Lieutenant Colonel Dusan Pilipovio and the Chief of Staff
is a certain Major Zerica,

The staff officers of the 85 j Border Guard Battalion are as followsa

First Lieutenant Mandic and Warrant Officer Drago Kujundjic are

The men of the Battalion receive ahoit 800 grams of bread per day and
about 50 grams of meat per meal four times each week. The soldiers
receive 90 dinars per month.
5. The headquarters of the Battalion operates a school for telephone and
telegraph operators. The school has 12 students who receive instruction
eight hours per day. The course lasts 11 months. The commander of the
school is Second Lieutenant Padovan Nikolicf, whose assistant is Warrant
Officer 2ivota. Nestorovica
6a The pressure on the soldiers to join the Communist Party has increased
since the fall of 1951. Approximately 2Cf per cent of the soldiers of the
Battalion are members of the Communist Party. February 1952, the trial
period of 6 to 18 months required of Communist Pater candidates was abolished
for candidates serving with the KNOJ0 At that time, all of than candidates
whowere' ser g. in the 85 KN0J, Border 'Guard Battalion became Communist
Party members a.
During, the period from 27 ptember? 1951 to 10 April 19529 only two persons
were caught attempting to escape into Greece in the sector patrolled by the
Battalion. The two persons had escaped from the prison at Kavadar and were
captured in early April at. Klinske Livade.
