The department (Abteilung) for surface treatment is a
subdivision of Hauptabteilung Optik of Zeiss, Jena. In
the department, optical surfaces receive so-called T-Schutz
(T-protection: T stands for transparent) through a steaming
process,
2, T- Schutz is a mixture of mercury vapors with other Un-
specified ingredients; the exact composition is a Zeiss
secret.. The application of T=--Schutz diminishes the reflec-;.ion
011, optical surfaces, thereby increasing their light power
by 30 percent.
