The transmitting tower was about 120 meters high and had two tapering steel masts. It was based on a socket joint emplaced in a concrete pedestal and was moored by steel trusses. several wires, supported by masts, led from the tower across the road and the railroad line to the three small two-story houses beside the railroad line. Aed obstacle lamps, eight meters apart,, i;ere fitted at the tower from bottom to top. The restricted area was -ucrded by U soldiers wearing blue- bordered, red epaulets. 45-rin .,C, guns were emplaced near the A quarters north of the radio station. 9. The airfield, about l i km square, was 4C O meters north-northeas~ of Lisi-lios, south-southeast of Tarkhovka (29 589 E/6004'' 1q), east of the rail- road line and'road. 10. Ten to twenty single-engine aircraft were perma_': nently stationed at the field. Individual para- chute jumps from biplanes were regularly seen over the airfield in the ,uriraer of 1949 at altitudes of from 150 to 200 meters. 11. An about 200-meter square area, surrounded by a wire fence, was southwest of Olgino (30 8' E/590 09a N), between the sea and the coastal road. A radio tower was in this area (see Nines 2) which was called e naval transmitting station by local residents. I wooden house, about 20 meters square, was in the southeast corner of the terrain. The radio tower was based on a concrete pedestal and topped by a square frame which was illuminated by, red lamps at night. 12o The airfield, abut 1.2z km, about 1* km east of Gorskaya (30'01 ,:,48G 21 N)just south of the road to Levashevo (30 131 46066t N) was surrounded by ;woods. It had no cement runway but the subgrade was firm so that it was serviceable even in rainy Weather. Co-p;;s, former air force soldiers, said that the field was occupied by 100 to 120 aircraft of yak-3;,-2 and ~:I.-?10 types. The planes were parked in the open alon;; the edra of the woods. Flying was done individually and in formations of up to 100 planes. 15. The field was p;rnlanbntly occupied.
