On 26 September 4 high-ranking Soviet Army, officers and 3 Soviet civilians,
believed to be correspondents, arrived at Yonp'o AirfieId,427-31, 394a7)
(,CV-7301,x) and stayed in tiamhung 3 days before going to 'yon: rang. One of
the officers was said to be Malinovsky, Commander of Soviet forces in the
Far East, and the purpose of his visit was to meet the Chinese and North
Korean representatives at the cease-fire talks. It was rumored that the
Soviets said a cease-fire would be estabi4ahed, possibly for a short .time
only, and that the Soviets' purpose was to allow time for the strengthening
of Communist forces in Korea.
