The Vranduk Military Construction Enterprise is reportedly enlareine the 21 May Aircraft Engine Factory, Knezevac, near Belgrade. At present only one of the shops in the Factory is actively engaged in the production of aircraft engines. The machinery for this shop, which is situu=.tecl at the northern end of the plant, is of German origin. 2. The main shop in the 21 May Factory, which is adjacent to the active shop, is approximately 200 meters by 100 meters in size. An unspecified number of shops are presently under construction southwest of the main shop. One of the largest of these buildings is reported to be located near the Bakovica-Knezevac road. So far, six stories of the building have been com- pleted, and construction is still _n - on. The directing staff of the Factory will reportedly be housed in this building. 3o Additional buildings, which will serve as workshops and storehouses for tools and supplies, are under construction in the entire sector covered by the plant, from the northwest to the southeast. The plant covers an area of 160,000 square meters (800x200 meters) and is surrounc:ed by a barbed- wire fence. 4. The 21 May Aircraft Engine Factory reportedly started operation in the Spring; of 1949. In addition to aircraft engines, it rep rtedly produces machinery and essential tools for the aircraft industry. The Factory is also reported to have some underground installations and, in informant?s opinion, underground tunnels are being constructed by the Vranduk Military Construction Enterprise. 5. The Director of the 21 May Aircraft Engine Factory is reported to be Lt. Col. Slavko Petrekovic; the Chief Engineer is reported to be I& ka Beleslin; and Badoslav Mirkovic is a staff engineer.
