1. During August and September 1951, 200,000 of the beat men from various
Chinese Communist field armies were concentrated in the Northeast to
obtain new Soviet,-made pennons. Prom these men was formed the Special
Army Group. of the Northeast, which was sent to Korea in several detach
manta. T4e6 commander was ahigh-ranking Chinese Comrouaiet military
cadre meAer, the deputy commander was a Soviet general, and over ten
Soviet officers were in the office of the :chief of * taff, assisting the
Chinese Communist military cadres. Soviet officers, wbo assisted in
command and planning, were also assigned to each division. This army
group included four armies, the designations of which changed occasionsiJT.:
Among the weapons the troops had were rockets.
2. Personnel of this group included 40,000 men from the 4 7ield Arny, of
whom 2,000 were from the 42 Army. In mid October thsaeirere being regroup
ed and equipped in Chian (126-I0, 41-07).
