1. Zeiss-Jena has started the production of a communications instrument called a
Lichtsprechger8.t. The instrument operates as follows: The sound is transmitted
through a microphone to a selenium cell which converts the sound to short waves
(presumably infrared). These light waves are projected through a lens system to
a receiver where the light waves are received in a selenium cell and reconverted
to sound. This equipment can be used as either transmitter or receiver. It is
a light portable field apparatus and intended chiefly for the use of infantry.
It is mounted on a tripod and is powered by a dry battery.
2. The instrument resembles a small searchlight wit-tan apprroxthate diameter of 30 cm
and an approxi: ate length of 25 cm. The maxim .n range is approxi_iately 500 - 700
Meters. An ordinary telescope is fitted on the upper right hand side of the
apparatus and is used for lininn up one station with the other. The apparatus
can be tuned to the wave length of the other transmitter or receiver.
3. The location of and the details concerning the firm producing the selenium cells
is not known.
