la Between May and midSeptember 1951 the Soviets increased the number of active
wells . in the I.;C-at zen fields from 37 to 70. Included in the more recent figure
are four wells located in the Aderklaa area between Bockfliess and Reyersdorf
which, for administrative purposes, were incorporated into the Matzen area in
June 1951. The Soviets expect that as many as 12 more wells ;',,ill come into
production by the end of 1951. The averake daily output of crude ail from the
Matzen fic4 ens is estimated at 3,730 metric tons. The Soviets hope by the end
of the year to raise this production to 4,000 metric tons per day. All but one
of the Platzen wells yield"an asphalt-oil which has a 5 w 7?5-.percent benzine
content; the remaining well produces paraffin oil, of vlhich the present yield
is 21 tons-per day. The average water content of "ratzen oil is 12 percent.
2. The Soviets have recently constructed a large pumpina station at Bockfliess
from which oil is pumped directly to the underground storage tanks in the Lobau4
The pumping station is now equipped with four storage tanks, each having a ca-
pacity of 7;000 cubic meters. Two more storage tanks with a capacity,,' of 3,000
cubic meters apiece have been completed but as yet are not connected to the
pumping station. The Soviets expect eventually to install three additional
1,000-cubic'-meter storage tanks. in this pumping station. !!s of mid-September
1951 it is estimated that approximately 3,100 tons of crude oil are numped daily
from the I:Tatz?n fields directly to the storage tanks in the Lobau,

Aderklaa now has 10 active Wells which produce a total of 700 tons per day

drill rigs are operating in this field, and it is exnected that these wells will
be brought into production by the end of September 1951. In view of the negative
results of test drillings conducted in Aderklaa during Tray and June 1951, the
Soviets transferred three drill rigs from this field to Muehlberg sometime in
July. Exploratory drillings at Fischamend on the right bank of the Danube have
disclosed excellent oil cores, although these wells thus far '.tt e produced only
gas. The Soviets intend shortly to install two more drill-rigs, in addition to
the three now operating in this area. The entire crude oil output of the Aderklaa
fields is now pumped directly to the SP:$V underground storage tanks in the Lobau.

The crude oil output of -I.tuehlberg's 56 i:ells is still declining and in September
1951 was estimated at only 970 tons per day. rater content of this oil is 68
percent of the total output. The natural gas compressors at Vuehlbern, have been
replace.i with eight new compressors which the Soviets brought in from Eastern
Germany. The new compressors have a capacity of 200,000 cubic meters ner day.
Natural gas produced in this area will be used to operate the gas lifts in the
oil Yields and will also be pumped to Vienna's municipal gas works.

This oil field area now has a total of 270 wells producing 430 tons of oil per
day. T'se transfer of ITAG' s 24 derricks to the Matzen fields was completed in
August 1951. A gas lift has been installed at AEA which-is supposed to increase
production by as much as 40 tons per 24-hour period.
Van Sickle
6. In stay 1951 the Van Sickle oil fields had 37 wells producing a total of 170 tons
of oil per day. This semi-independent enterprise is deliberately restricting? its
production.
7. As of slay 1951 this field was producing a daily average of 170 tons per day. This
output is reported to be 91 percent water.
'Crude Oil. Delivered }3etz:een and September 1951
Following is a. sura.ry of available estimate: on the crude oil output of the S"V
fields during the period of P.Ray to mid-September 1951. It should be noted that
scurc.e as not in a position to maintain coverage during the month of July. These
figures represent the amount of crude oil pumped from S?.'.V oil. fields and do not
indicate actual -Nell production:

1.0. An official of one of the Si4V storage depots is reported to have stated in June
1953 that from 2,000 to 2,200 tons of crude oil were being shipped daily to Cze-
choslovakia and Eastern Germany. (4) During the 19st reek of June 1951 seven
transports totalling 3,500 tons of crude oil were shipped from '"ifo-Neusiedl to
Eastern `germany; considerably larger quantities were shipped from a?'ifo_Lobau.
:Sateen 1 and 18 September 1951 a total of 9,400 tons of crude oil was loaded
a, the Matzen railroad station for direct shipm nt to Hungary anc Czechoslovakia.
Export Shipments of Crude Oil from the Lobau
1.1, It is estimated that between 3,200 and 3,500 tons of crude oil are loaded daily
^om ,he SMV storage tanks in the Lobau for shipment out side of Austria .(5) The
amount of crude oil shipped from the Lobau to the Austrian refineries probably
noes not exceed 900 tons per day.
