1. Dr. Kausche* and Dro Wittbrodt* of the DDR State. Planning Commission are plan-
ning to procure a selected group of foreign scientific publications as an aid
to ,uoiversity and industrial research. Sixty-five copies of each publication
selected will be required to fill this need.
2. Dr. Kaucche has repeatedly attempted to procure urgently required platinum from
Russia for the rarrufaoture of crucibles used in the production of certain special
purpose ?lass by the Zeiss Jena concern. However, the procurement of this com-
modity appears to be impossible.
3 < Through the intermediary of the State Planning Comr iseion, an instrument., appar-
ently a type of plumb lot capable of measuring height above ground, is being
developed for the SCC in Karlshorst. However,, the production of this instrument
has been delayed,., Zeiss has produced a mirror microscope which has been !'loaned"
to Karlshorst "ic"r a test" .
4. Dr.. Bischoff of Zeiss is reported to have stated that development -.nd designing
at Zeiss is at a low ebb since the concern has only 150 designers.. This short
age of designer engineers has already stopped the develo 'b of the direct
vision microscope.
