REPORT NO.
1. CH'EN Ch'eng Is still anxious to resign,l but he has agreed to remain In
office until a auitable replacement is found. CHANG Chun has been asked
by CHIANG Kai--she to take the position, but he has refused.
2. CHIANG is now anxious to appoint a new premier and reorganize the Executive
Yuan completely, eliminating some ministries and combining others, for the
following reasons:
a.
He desires a premier who will be popular with the United States as well
as with Japan.
b.
He believes that CH'EN Ch'eng, who is a military man,
with the deteriorating financial situation on Taiwan.
New Taiwan Yuan is decreasing steadily.2
