ACQUIRED (LISTED EXIOW) NO. OF PAGE-S.' NO. OF ENCLS. DATE OF ENFO. 25X1X REPORT NO. SUPPLEMENT TO . A real anti-Communist partisan movement which ts adequately organized and lod does not exist at the present time In Hungory. There are partisan grope coming from eastern Slovakia, however, who cross the Danube qulte freqw)ntly. A certain importance is attached to the Group for Slovak Resistance, located to the east of the Danube, which is active near the mountain regions of Newozals,, Karancs? Cserlti't., and BiWk, and often, in small groups, in the mountainous sectors of the Matra. These groups are composed of Hungarians? Slovaks, end lIpikan "Volksdoutschen, as well as some Ukrainians and Rothenians The partisans are poorly equipped with armeand it is estimated that only 30% have mach iae guns and hand grenades, 2. During the months of September and October, the authorities at Vge ha6. organized ? extensive expeditions in the regions of Kosd, Osaggrd, AlsdPotgny, and farther north,to seek out these groups, but without positive results If this vac done to find out if the local populace were favorable to this movement, and were ready to give it all possible aid, these police operation u haNre failed. Speoial elements ? of the AVH and the MVD coming from Budapest and V6c recently have been used as agents provocateurs for the purpose of singling, out those who may be helping the partisans, or those who may be considered disloyal. It is mostly Slovak peasants, however; who are actively assisting the movement. . The most independent of the above-mentioned groups are those operating in the marshy regions of the Ho/tobagy river and on the plain to the north of Ss000d. These are small independent groups of 5-10 men composed of Russian deeerters? Hungarian deserters, fugitive peasants from the collective farms near the Yugoslavian frontier, or ordinary criminals, who are equipped with Russian arms and supplies, They are limited to disruptive actions of sabotage or thefts, and killings for the purpose of robbery. 4. BOOR1100 of the presence in force of troops, the region of Neosok has been abandoned by the partisans, but little by little all groups are showing them- selves again in this region, 5. Recent news has indicated that the partisans have effective contact with the Yugoslav authorities, and it Is alleged that there is an organized centact group of a oormanent character along the Yugoslav frontier supported by Yugoslavian officinle. It Is alleged that Yugoslav patrols rake contoct with these grouos? especially along the lower course of the Danube, whore it is diff3cult for.. the Hungnrian police to watch and poll:he border effectively. 2N STATE ARMY NAW CLASSIRCAT1 NSRO FBI Approved 1 )116 ''. 0 IITROI, ?
