Defection of Chinese Comrauxnist Troops and Countermeasures of
lr Since the defecti n, on 16 August 1951, of UANG Kuan and troops

under his command , militia troops of the 5, 6, and 8 Districts,
Chungahen IIsien~ have defected and fled into Ltchihshan (,VA t. L L4
)
and Ibbrgyangshun ( tLl ), Chungahan Haien. CHA0 xling (, s ),
Chinese Corimunist head of the 8 :District, Chungshan Haien, was
killed by militia troops in that area before they fled..
On 15 ;September a regiment of the Kwangtung 3 Public Security
Division was sent from the south to the Lichishan and Huan ,yangshan
areas, via Canton, where they rrere stationed to liquidate defecting
militia troops.

On 29 August one battalion of the Independent Artillery Regiment,
15 Array Group,, 4 Field Ar y, proceeded along the Tungkuan-Taiping
highway to the Narncha (1 )-Peicha (fie hil ) area, where they
wore to be based. This battalion of approximately 500 troops was
equipped with 6 field bus, tt flat trajectory guns., 1 mountain buns,
20 x 25 mm machine guns, and a total of 80 horses and donkeys.2
4. Between 20 and 30 August, one armored corps battalion of the Central
and South China ;"1litary Area Command left Canton for 11siaopien
approximately 10 miles east of Taiping, whore they were to be
s t,3 oned Soviet adviser Lieutenant Colonel Li-hua-t -Hsu-ko. fu
