THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION
The 35 Angkatan Darat Republik Indonesia (AI ,I) battalions stationed in West
Java have not yet been able to eliminate the armed gangs and lawlessness
in this area. The major reason for their lack of effectiveness is that the
irregulars have many friends in the ADRI ranks, most of the guerrillas having
also been members of the Tentera lasional Indonesia (TNI). These ADRI con-
vections keep tie guerrillas informed of troop movements and of operations
planned against them. ?With such prior warning the irregulars can disperse.

Bandung deserted, moving north to join the Barisan Sekit Hati, an irregular
force operat1ag in the Indramaju area. This group is under the leadership
