1. Ater the Communist occupation of Hainan, lH Chienmyixg designated the
island Hainan Admialstratlve District. LIB Piao appointed TG Hua,,
15 Army Group commander, to the post of chief of the Hs4naa Military
and Administrative Committee (F SAC); LIN also appointed F..laG Paai-chu
C~-) as deputy. The municipality of Haik9ou (110-20, 20-0)
and 16 heien were under the jurisdiction of the HMAC. When TENG led his
troops to Korea in October 1950, F}:2G was the highest-ranking military
and political leader on the island.
2. The following units were on Hainan: The Hainan Column; the Hainan
Military Administrative Branch Command (HMABC); the 135 Division,
45 Army; a marine corps of the Sea Patrol Command, Central and South.
China Navy Commaud; and heien militia corps. There were 22,000 regular
troops on Hainan and 15,000 militiamen.
3. Military forces on Hainan were deployed as follows;
a. Haik9ou: 1,000 directly-controlled troops of the MUM; 1,000 troops
of the Hainan Column headquarters; 1,000 men of the garrison head-
quarters and public security* corps; and 1,000 men of the marine corps.
b. Cbiuugsshan (1410?-21, 20.02): Headquarters of the 135 Division, the gua7vde
battalion, artillery battalion, reconnaissance,, engineer and signal com-
Pauies of the 135 Division were at Chiungshan. These units comprised
2.000 men, 120 bcrsos and nine artillery pieces. The division's 403
Rerdment having 2,000 men was near P'uchO ien Port (. "'.I Wenchf eng
(110 , 19-42); the 4o4 Regiment with 2,000 men was near Chgengmai
(109-59, 19-4T).
c. Lohu,i. (110-27, 19-13): The HN C was composed of three regiments of
10500 m?jn each. The first was near Lohn.l and Wena?.ng (110-23, 19-50) ;
the second, was in Talhaien (109-10, 19-24), Tulin, Sanya and Tint9len
(, iU ); the third was in the Lingshui (l09--56, 13.35) - Paot9iug
(109-32, 19-40) area.,
d. The Hainan Colin comprised 6,000 men divided into four regiments.
The troops were in the following places: Haiklou, Tingan (lioW-16,
~ ~ ~, j ChB iungtung (110.2$, 1932) , Hsinmin( j ) , and Pai sha.
