In early August Chinese Cormunist .Army Headquarters in Peiping issued a combat order stating that the entire air force in the South China area had to be transferred to t'lle uer4An border region before 20 August. In early August the Chinese Communists ordered the 1) ,Air Unit, consisting of 25 MIG-15's, and a small unit of I-li-hsin ("if I ~ )2 planes, to white Cloud Airfield and the 20 Air Unit, consisting of 25 YAK-9's to Nanshiung (114-3725-13) Airfield. The latter assignment was only temporary. - 25X1A 70 On 214Ju17214 MIC-15's arrived at Pealing (123-25, 141-50) Airfield. 8. In July T'unghua (125-57, 41-43) was one of the main Chinese Communist air bases. It had four 7,500-meter (sic) concrete rung L?:, and was equipped for night operations. Facilities at this field include radar, and 140-60 MIG--iS's are stationed there. Anti-aircraft defenses include 24 Soviet-type anti- aircraft guns and 4 search lights. 1.
