The Rumanian Air Force lieutenant was an electrician specialist at the Popesti Leorde _,_ 25X1A and lieutenant attended school together in 1926, and have _ seen _ each other on various occasions since. The last time was in August 1951 in a chance meeting. The lieutenant stated that the informant was wise to leave Rumania "before war breaks out"., The informant did not dare ask questions when the lieutenant said "many" bombers end other types of Soviet and Rumanian aircraft are ready to attack Yugoslavia soon. The lieutenant did not ask informant to repeat the story to the Greeks, but pledged him to secrecy while in Rumania.. 2. Prior to the 23 August holiday., informant saw over Bucharest more than fifty Soviet "large" aircraftl in formations of five or six. An aerial meeting was held that day at the Baneasa airfield and several hundred parachutists were dropped. The parachutes were of various forms and colors. 3. mother informant was also re interrogated. On the last Sunday in August, 1951, the informant drove with a Securitate sergeant to the . negov area. ;Jhile passing opposite the Baneasa military airport on the main road to Otopeni, for a distance of two kilometers inside the forest of Beneasa, informant saw three rows of tanks, each tank about six meters long, at right angles to the forest, parked four to five meters apart w., - guns pointing toward the forest. The informant could see only about fifty meters into the forest because of the foliage. Behind the tanks and along a two-kilometer length of tanks in rows, heavy artillery and anti--aircraft guns were observed. Behind these, trucks cnd automotive vehicles of various types were observed. The tanks and guns were covered with tarpaulins. The informant could not give a better estimate of the number of tanks seen than "several hundred". Both were astonished at the numbers but the informant avoided discussion. Informant was positive that the soldiers he saw living in the tents throughout the forest were Soviets. The informant returned by the same route, but at night. Driving by this area was permitted, but Soviet guards prohibited stops. 4- The forest of Chitila is about thirty meters from the Chitiha railroad statimno The civilians are not permitted further than ton meters from the station.. Soviet and Rmanian soldiers are on guard, with Soviet troops encamped in a different area but next to the Rumanian troops. The Soviets are encamped in wooden barracks extending about one kilometer. The informant believes that these troops man the fortress in the area. 5o In the Pantelimon forest informant observed about sixty truck drawn anti-tank and anti-aircraft guns. The Soviet troops lived in tents located among the vehicles and guns in the forest. 10 amiaent: Probably these some fifty Soviet "large" aircraft were use to cop the parachutists at the Baneasa airfield.
