1. On 7 August, an infantry battalion was observed in a bivouac around one
large and several smaller bunkers on height 1311. Two field kitchens and
an army horse drawn cart were observed. The latter carried ammunition
of unknown caliber for storage in a bunker.

2. On 8 and 23 tlugust a company of border guards was seen at Dobri Luki
training in trenches on a nearby hillo
3. On 9 August an infantry battalion was seen on height 1076 overlooking the
Shanovska River0
fit. On 10 August a unit of 1,000 men was seen encamped at the base of height
1710 on both sides of the main road. Seventy tents were observed.
5. On 20 August, two encampments of troops, estimated between one and two
regiments, were observed on heights 1350 And 1208. The troops were training
in field exercises, ambush and patrols.
6. Border guard troops wore rubber sandals and were equipped with Soviet 72-round
drum sub-riachine guns. Guards and troops wore winter overcoats because of
the cold weather in the mountains.
