In mid July, there were jet fighters and 10 bombers and reconnaissance aircraft
at Sinuiju (124-23, 40-06) (XI 1839) Airfield, There is an anti-aircraft
installation 400 meters south of the'Second Girls' Middle School on an embank-
ment at the northwest end of Sinuiju. The airstrip comprises three parallel
east-west runways approximately 1500 meters long and an equal length parking
area sufficiently wide to accommodate three fighters abreast at the south and
of the area. The parking area was newly constructed by Chinepe Communist
laborers; it is covered with weeds one meter high, and resembles a paddy field
from the air. The parked planes were camouflaged with grass and straw bags.
The pilots are North Koreans who are supervised by 10 Soviet advisers. Their
quarters are at the northwest end of the area, west of the anti-aircraft
position.
