19 On 27 July a regiment arrived in '.:enchou from Nanking.' It will go north
by water after 23,000 (sic) militia troops from various hsien under the
-.enchou commissioner's office have been added to it.
2d on 29 July a mountain gun battery and an infantry platoon of the Chinese
Communist 31 Army moved from Pai'tang (118.02, 24-15) where they had been
setting up positions, to Chenhaich'eng (].18-05,p 24-165, The move vias
ordered by the headquarters of the 31 Army after these positions at Pai'tang
had been exposed to the Nationalists during an artillery engagement.of
these units with Nationalist naval vessels on 27 July.
3. During early July a large quantity of dynamite arrived at Choushan Island
from Shanghai. ''.pile some of this dynamite was being unloaded at Tisighai
(122.06, 3003) an explosion occurred. It was caused by the carelessness
of deck coolies and resulted in the destruction of 130 civilian houses and
the death or injury of 150 Communist soldiers and civilians.
4o Two hundred Japanese prisoner of war artillery troops have arrived in
Cantor and have been assigned to an artMtii~.-y unit of the 4 Field Army in that
area.
