1. Distribution of United States aid is reported to be very unjust. 25X1X
Certain categories of government employees e r amili?s obtain rations,.
but this privileged class covers only five million people. The remaining
eleven people receive relatively nothing. Food scarcities allegedly reached
their peak in April 1951, and the peasants are reported to be consuming all
their grain stocks. Conditions in Southern tbontenegro, iasteii Bosnia and
Lower Lika are more pitiful than in other parts of the country.
2. The health conditions of the Yugoslav people are reported to be deplorable,
with an average of one hospital bed per every 1500 inhabitants. Thera averages
one public clinic for every 16,000 people, and in T -tene,*ro one for every
80,000 people. In Macedonia there is one public clinic for every 100,000 people,
and in Bosnia one for every million. Inhabitants. Yugoslavia has 144 tuberculosis
clinics, which cared for 1,200,000 persons. The tuberculosis scourge in
Yugoslavia averages at a rate of one per every ten inhabitants. The number
of doctors in all of Yugoslavia is reported to be 4,000.
