Source reports that Ilya Epstein was in Moscow for a nine-week stay which
included March 1951.* During his visit he saw members of the Politburo
and Chinese military representatives.
2,, Epstein claims that the Soviet proposal for peace in Korea is absolutely
genuine, as the Soviets are extremely worried about the destruction of their
materiel., the latest models of which are being,, shipped to the Chinese,
They are now convinced that the Americans cannot be beaten in Korea and
-wish to put a stop to the fight. They will open a new conflict soon
somewhere else where conditions are the most favorable to the East
3- Epstein was told in Moscow that it is absolutely impossible for Communism.
and capitalism to coexist in the world.
Comment: Epstein has been identified in available records as
an assistant to Eugeniusz Szyr, deputy to ; ilary Mine, former Polish Minister of
Economic Affairs. It is not clear from the original wording of the report
whether March 1951 was the beginning, end, or middle of Epstein. s stay
