Scheduled leave trains departing from irankfurt/Oiler toward Brest.Litovsk viere
.virtually empty in April 1951, whereas the leave trains coming in from Brest-
Litovsk were about, 80 percent occupied. In addition to the scheduled leave trains,
regular passenger train was employed as leave train on its runs from
Brest-Litovsk to Frankfurt Oz?-` on 9, 11 and 19 April. *
Twelve empty coaches and 1 kitchen car were despatched to Brest Litovsk on
7 iiay; 8 empty coaches on 8 LLay; and 12 empty coaches on 9 Lay..
Seventy five officers got off the leave train which arrived in 1{ran:cfurt/Oder
from Brest Litovsk.at 5 p.m. on 10 v+ay, and proceeded to the Ilofbauer Kasorne

II Comment, Two pairs of leave trains,

25X1 shuttled on the Frankfurt/Oiler-);rest Litovsk railroad line from the
beginning of November 1950 until 23 January 1951. There was only one pair
of leave trains daily between 24 January and 24 February, while the second 25X1,,
pair of leave trains was dropped from the schedule on iron" sda"rs
and Fridays and, after 25 February 1951, also on Sundays
It seems probable that because the divisions were starting to move
to the troop training grounds,, leave traffic to the U.C.'I. was curtailed
but the trains returning to Frankfurt Oder still carried personnel returning
from furlough,; The passenger train has probably employed to haul these 25X1
troops back to the Soviet Zone of Cerr.any. It is possible that some of the
trains may have also carried a limited number of young replacements from the
U S S ~R Compare with observations made in Rathenow in raid-April 1951. Sec
