In February 1951, the Volkspolizei Dienststelle (VW) in Sternbuchholz near Schwerin (L1 54/t 46) was organized into three infantry Kormandos, one artillery Xonmando, and six Sonderabtefaungen. Each infantry Kommando consisted of three infantry Abteilungen, one heavy igichine gun Abtailung, and one medium mortar Abteilung. The artillery Kommando had 400 police and seven heavy soviet Dins of undetermined caliber with their caterpillar tractors. The 1st Armd Ron Sondorabteilung of 40 police, to be brought up to GO police, was equipped with one light Soviet armored reconnaissance car and one small German cater- pillar tractor. The 2d rort Sonderabteilung of 60 police was equipped with one heavy mortar of undetermLned caliber, The 3d Iligr 3onderabtenunc had not been imed equipment. The renainin6 SonderaUeilungen of VPD were the 4th Jig Sonderahteilung, the 5th AA:, sonderabteilung, the 6th AT Arty Sonder- abteilung, and the 7th Armd Sonderabteilung, which had one T-34 tank. 2. The officers of the VPD in Sternbuchholz included VP Konnandeur Drumm, (fnu), director of training and an ex-captain of the German Air Force; VP Rat Jahn, (fnu)? assistant director of training, in charge of the Sonderabteilungen; VP Rat Schoelke, (frill), assistant chief of staff; and VP jberkonmissar Benne, (fnu)? connanding officer of the 1st Prmd Ron SonderabteilunE, 3. The personnel of the VPD were to pass an intermediate examination in mid-Uarch to determine their qualifications for possible promotion. 50X1-HUM 4.
