1. Attempts which have been made during the last four months to develop a machine
for balancing rotors with a high velocity of rotation, using a mechanical system
for amplification of the oscillations, have resulted in failure. It is now
intended to experiment with the piezo-electric effect of crystals. The vibra-
tions of the rotor will result in a varying pressure on the crystals, and it
is hoped that the resultant voltage produced will prove an easy and foolproof
method of balancing the rotor. The factory intends to start manufacturing
gyroscopes when it has developed a suitable balancing machine.
2. The factory is also to undertake development work on a marine Speedometer,
using the principle of the Pitot tube. It is hoped that the piezo-electric
effect can be used to measure the difference in pressure.
