1. ;A armored unit of 100 to 120 tanks is stationed in a small forest called
Gana at Asenovgrad. The tanks arrived from Plovdiv in the summer of 1950;
some are stored in garage buildings and others are covered with wax cloths.
2. The 2 Mountain Artillery Regiment has returned to Asenovgrad after having
moved away to an unknown place for a while. Their barracks are about one
kilometer east of the town. About 500 meters further east. their ammunition
is stored in five separate buildings.
3. The Sopot ammunition depot, one of the largest in Bulgaria, is located two
kilometers east of Sopot, between Sopot and Karlovo. There are 115 under-
ground storage units, whose location can be observed by the ventilating
tiles.
4. Also at Sopot is a factory manufacturing hand grenades and converting
German shells to fit Bulgarian guns.
5. The new hydro-electric power plant at Asenovgrad was scheduled to begin
operating in February 1951. Designed by two Italian engineers,its three
turbines will produce 8000 kilowatts in 24 hours.
