3, The 'Five Principles of the Indonesian Nation are bitterly caricatured in
cartoons on page 25. The captions of these cartoons are:
1. Re't There is no freedom of worship. Why? Although you want
to go to pray, yor have no clothes to wear. .Dressed like this, no
worship is legal.
2. Nationality: The people who struggled for the establishment of the
Red and t'hite flag do not reap the harvest of their toil, but those
who formerly hesitated now support the country*, they are the well-to-
do people.
3 Humanity: Pretentiously, he gives alms to the bemgar, but in truth
he is the very cause of the existence of beggars. Just ask the fat
man to abolish pauperism. Then he will shrug his shou'ders.
4. Democracy; Democracy does not mean much of anything. Those who have
the right of freedom of speech are the bureaucrats. The mouths of
the people are shut up by military regulations, emergency regulations
and other measures.
5. Social Jrst-ice; Social justice means +hat the fat will remain so
forever, and the thin will remain thin just as long. Those who eat
things out of bottles and tins will go on eating them, and those who
eat tree-leaves and kernels will oontinue to do so.
