The metallurgical factory, i'rogresul, formerly the Franco-Romani. factory, constructs 12 locomotive steam boilers a month for the Soviets. During 1949 three large boilers for the Soviet ships, ORS,, PSOK, and RT.36, were repaired, 2. Progresul makes large Vane valves for the Sovrompetrol to be used in oil drilling operations. Bach month 300 valves of various sizes and dimensions are made, all of which are used in pipelines to control the flow of oil. Windlass machines for extracting oil, and admiralty type anchors are also made for the Sovrompetrol. In 1942 four Rumanian Navy mine, weopers were begun in the Galati Naval Shipyard, but the war delayed their construction. Construction. has now resumed and Progresul is building stem engines for these ships which are scheduled for completion in three years, 4, In 1949 five lighters were under construction. In 1950 six lighters were under construction, and they are scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 1957. These lighters have tanks for oil and gasoline in the bottom and on the sides, and a superstructure to transport cotton. 5. The Five Year Plan calls for 50 lighters (10 each year). In 1947 two 1,000 ton tankers were built, one for the Soviets and one for the Rumanians, 6,. In 1949 eight motor launches, 12 meters in length, were built. They have Meibs.ch engines.
