Axon stated thatthe expectation of an automatic victory in the election contest on the part of many comrades was dangerous. He admitted that Western propaganda aimed at the FDJ Wh1tsun rally had had effects upon parents as well as juveniles in the Soviet Zone of Germany, and added that it should now be expected that during the coming weeks Western propaganda will be intensified considerably. Accordingly Axen called for intensified vigilance against followers of Anglo-American war propaganda in the Soviet Zone of Germany. He said that a solid defensives front must be established by welding together the organs of the People?s Police, the State Security Service, the State People's Controls and SED cadres. 2. Axon emphasized that mere formal consent by the CDU and LDP to the joint elec- tion ticket was not sufficient to insure victory. Functionaries of these par- ties must be watched constantly to safeguard against surprise attacks which might come from their midst. I Document Ns. -----'- --------_-~o,.
