1. On 16 August 1950 it was :_earned that most of the troops from the Pionier Ka-
serve, Riesa (N 52/E 81)., were at a summer camp. The billeting area was occu-
pied by not more than L50 to 200 troops, presumably belonging to a headquarters
unit. No training activity or heavy weapona were observed. The headquarters of
a tank division was on August rebel-Strasse, outside the area of the Pionier Ka-

served The entrances to the street were blocked. Motor vehicles

2. Only a guard detail was in the Von der Goltz Kaserne on 16 PAugust 1950. In the
evening only the first floor of one building was lighted. *
L omment. The two billeting areas were reported to be heavily occu ie~ in
u , 1 ,fie Pionier Kaserne'housing about 1,000 troops. Seel If the
barracks were actually occupied in July 1950 they probably housed recruits who
were temporarily quartered in Riesa prior to their reassignment to field units.
The Iiq 9th Tank Div was reported to be located in a -,roup of houses on August
33ebel-Strasse in May 1950,
