L, In Turkmen SSE in February 1950 the Soviets had two divisions in the neigh-
borhood of Ashkhabad and two more divisions in the vicinity of Mary (Merv)

.3, It has been reported that in May 1950 the Soviet Union !tad 250,000 troops
in the area south of the Caucasus Mountains to the Turkish and Iranian
borders. Twelve divisions of these 250,000 troops were supposedly in
Azerbaidzhan.
A reserve army of undetermined size reportedly was north of the mountains
near the Caspian Sea.,
