L. Despite the acc'leerated efforts during August 1950 of the Junta "I'acional
de Partidarios de Is Paz, the Tlruguaygn Communist "peace" organization,
there has been a noticeable l.essering of enthusiasm in the orpa izationes
activities. Although Jose Luis Massera, Secretary-General of t getup,
publicly announced that his organization had collected 75,On' signatures for
the Stockholm Peace 'ledge as of 23 1ugust, conservative estimates derived
from the orpa,nization0s confidential fit-6, indicate that only anoroxi. tely
25,000 signatures have been obtained.
2. As a result of the lack of enthusiasm on the part of the Uruguai ?ans to sign
the "peace" pledge, the Junta is now olanninr to concentrate its: forces
on securi? ' support for the Co--unist-sponsored nlan of nrever_V,'if any
Uruf*uayart aid or assistance to the Inited `-Nations" forces in 'Cor?ea. To
imnl.ement the orf?aniza.tion's campaign against Tlruguayan aid in the Korean
Iar, the following measures were outlined on 26 August by the Junta and
are now in the process of being carried to comple',ions

;tashington indicating that the Urupaayan government intends to send
2,111 soldiers and other Military aid to corea.
b. An ad,'itional 59000 leaflets are to be distributed explaining the
implications of the projected Uruplaya,n aid to South Korea. Three
thousand of these leaflets are to be distributed amonr `scion General
de Trabajadores (UGT) syndicates.
c. If sufPicient funds are collected, advertising space is to he obtained
in daily newenaoers requesting that no rrruguayan supoort be given to
South Corea.
d. An audience is to be requested with the "resident of the Pent.hlic
to explain the Juntn's views on the corean situation.
e,. A public demonstration was to be held on 17entember under the indirect
.snonsorship of the Union de T'ujeres Anti Necistas Ssps neles,, a Spanish--
Comnunist '?rommend organization.

organization and 'Jru'uayan' Corirunist Senator, was g*tven the reeoonsibility
of selecting the candidates to represent the Junta at the gorld 'ongress
of Partisans of Peace in Rome during October 1950. Junta leader; adviserl
Irevalo that the delop tes selected to represent both the worker< and the
intellectual factions of the organization should be the members srho were
the most successful in collecting funds for the organization and signatures
for the Stockholm Peace sledge,

who has become active in Party a,f airs, have been unofficially n-.med as Junta
