DATE OF 25X1A LIBRARY SUPPLEMENT TO 2QX REPORT NO. 1. The Italian organization, Italcop,'' offered to various firms in Rorie 100.000 tons of barley for sale in Italy and. possibly France. The barley wa ,s of Soviet origin, had a hectoliter freight of 59 to 60 (itilograrta?), ryas packed "ally rinfusa," that is, unpacked or loo ,e, and was offered at 31+.30 Italian lire or kilogram for Italy c.i.f. Mediterranean port, and 20.20 French -i.:-ance per kilogrrm for France c.i.f. Mediterranean tort. It was offered for prompt delivery. Italcop sweated that the firms nark the barley as of 'North Afri- can origin (Algiers or Tunis). The prices are about 20 per cent below the Italian and front 15 to 17 per cent below the French wholesale prices. 2,. Italcop has re rtedly eat_:blished a branch I;nown as the Orient Trading Cor- poration, at 497 Via Tevere, Rope, the purpose of which is arma:+rently to main- tain contact '.sith the trade department of the Soviet 4mbasssy~ in Rorie. The first transaction of this firm involved 50,000 tons of s monium sulphate of British origin, with a coefficient of 20 - 21 per cent, which was delivered to the USSR at an F.O.B. price of 22 pounds sterling per ton. The acceptance port is Lubeck, and delivery is to be acconnlished over a six-month period in monthly portions of from 8,000 to 9,000 tons.
