1. Between 1 and. 20 July 1950 Hangcchow authorities made a complete census of
the city, and registered all former agents and underground workers. A
similar census is being taken in all major cities in China.
2. The Chinese Communist Government in Canton is imperilled by nocturnal
activities of guerrillas outside of the city. At least one Soviet official
has been booed and hissed openly in the streets. 25X1A

On 10 August TEE Chien-ying gave the following orders to the Chungeban Mili-
tary Control Commi^siant
a. Increase recruiting in additidn to the 3,000 alr?ealy mentioned.*
b. Increase 7mrchases - such as foreign medicines, raw cotton, hwrdvare,
kerosene, rubber pmd tires -- in Macao for shtnment inland.
c. Control all -press information and intensify the cemnaign to disarm local
inhabitants.
