There are very few ideologically-convinced Communists in the Chinese com- munity in Rangoon, but those few, the leaders of the China Democratic League (Burma Branch) (CDL(BB)), make so much noise that the outside observer is erroneously led to believe that Co/monism is strong in the Chinese community. The direction and driving force for the CDL(BB) itself seems to come mainly from China-born Chinese high school teachers, especially those at the Nan Yang High School.* 2. The Kum-it/tang revolutionary Connnittee (IMRG) :in Rangoon is composed of Chinese who were previously staunchly pro-INT but who joined the XMTR.0 be- cause they did not want to be on the wrong side of the fence when the Chinese Communist embassy is established in Rangoon.** Most of the members of the KMTRC are businessmen and their Communism consists, at most, of lip. service to the new ;overn/nent in China. They are lukewarm towards, and SOW may even be hostile to, Communism as such. If it were not for the pressure put on them Ix/ the CDL(BB), the INTRO would probably die for lack of enthusiasm. 3.The overwhelming majority of the Chinese in Rangoon ',now nothing about politics or ;overnment, and they are not interested in Connunism, Socialism, or any .other "ism". Many of them, however? can be talked into signing peti- tions or even contributing their names to the membership rolls of a patriotic Chinese society. The following Chinese associations in Rangoon are inclined to be pro-Control- /list: Chinese Chamber of Commerce.
