Next R e"v7~it+ r6 l Q &r Release -ENCLOSURES (NO. & TYPE) 1. The 'Alt Loennewitz (ia 52 E E4) airfield was observed from 11 aa.rrl. to 3:45 P.m. Six jet planes with a hi.Yi rudder assembly, and eight single- engine monoplanes of undetez.,2ined type stood in front of the closed han- gars. A radio truck 'cvaas parked north ol: the runway. About 12:30 pam. a jet plane with swept-back wings flew over the field at r,n altitude of about 3,000 rnetevs, heading southwest. At the ,-?ame time four low-wing monoplanes wore towed out of a tiangaar. These planes made long flL hts throughout the afternoon. Description : Radial en4no or double-row radial engine; rounded trapezoidal wings; landing gear retract- ing inward and fitted near leading;; edge of wings. Square opening, in the lef-.:. front section of the wings, probably oil cooler; long two-place plexiglass cabin with a radio mast at its rear; painted light blue. One of the planes had the nurroer 41 on.the fuselage, another one was marked by diagonal stripes on the rudder assersbly. (1) 3. The six jet planes were towed to the eastern end of the runway by trucks about 1:30 p.m. but were not flown. They had a pronounced sweep-back and their wings were possibly bent slii!htly downward. Tn: 3r had a red air intake, and a air exhaust at the tail. 4. After 2=30 p.ra. a jet plane of anothe&pe took off and landed at inter- val.s of 30 to 40 minutes. It erfonn.ed acrobatics, i.e. loops, banks, rolls, at an altitude of about 4:, 500 ;aeters. It was :a rrtidw ng monoplane, with the air outlet under the center of fuselage, and was probably a two- seater. It had standard win=n,s, banding gear retracting inward, nose wheel retracting rearward, and was painted dark green. At one landing:,; of this plane its power plant seemed to have stopped for a truck drove up and be- an to tour it. It is not clear whether these markings actually have a luminous paint.
