On 20 July 1950, the Russians doubled their orders for At-l*fighter training sets at the Zeiss firm in Jena. They have further indi- cated that they might even increase the number again soon. 2. Hartig (also previously reported as Harting), president of the Zeiss plant, stated that he had been approached by DDR officials with regard to converting the factory entirely for war production. "hen he answered that this would be politically impossible, he was asked what he would do if workers in mass meetings demanded such action for the North Korean People's Republic. Hartig then admitted that he could not oppose public opinion. He was told that a.fi.nal decision had not yet been reached. 3. The Zeiss firm is at present preparing for the rroduction of an isotope separator supposedly invented by Kapitsa. Comment: The A-1 fighter training set is fully described.
