4, In the past four to five weeks Juschwneschtrans has handled an estimated
3,000 tons of sugar which USIA has imported duty free from Czechoslovakia and
Hungery, Although these shipments were consiened to USIA,s Central Commercial
Bureau, USIA 's Food Industry Administration, and to the "Arbeiterversorgung"
(provisions for USIA employees), Austrian employees of juscheneschtrans be-
lieve the Soviets may plan to sell most of this sugar on the Austrian market
to obtain schillings.
5. During the same period USIA,s Central Commercial Bureau hae imported large
quantities of textiles from Czechcslovakia and Switzerland for "Letex"Ein
und Verkaufszentrale der vereinigten Leder- und Textilbetriebe, Vienna IV,
During the first two weeks of May 1950 approximately 30 tons of yarn, cloth,
stockings, and finished garments arrived in Vienna. It is believed that 'USIA
intends to sell these textiles on the Austrian market through non-USIA firms.
