THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION
1. The following Rumanian organizations are active in Salzburg;
a. 'Vatican Mission, headed by Ivan Florian Muller.
b. CAROMAN, Rumanian relief organization with headquarters in Paris,
directed by Major Croitoru.
CO Comittee of Rumanians in Salzburg, an Iron Cuardist group.
2. The Vatican Mission, which receives funds from the National Catholic
Welfare, offers relief to all Rumanians and assists them to find
possibilities for enigration. Walter Papan is the Secretary General of the
Vatican MiSaCM4
3. Major Croitoru of CARMAN is assisted by Captain Constantin Pagherneae,
Hr. Florescu and Captain loan Biala. Mrs. Llisabeta Bodesou directs the
local CARMAN warehouse. CARMAN receives funds from Church World Service.
4, Tho Vatican Mission and CAROAN have begun negotiations for the formation
of a Council of Assistance, to cover all Austria.
Membership of the Cemmittee of Rumanians in Salzburg connists of Traian
Pain and Messrs. Nea'a and Criyan. The Secretary is one Constantiniuc.
Its president, Ion Caraivan, emigrated to the UnitedStates as a DP in
early February. This Committee has no funds of its own but is recognized
by the sizeable number of Iron Guardists resident in Sa/nburg.
6. At the present time there are 1,387 Rumanians in the Western zones of
occupation. Of this number, 560 are in Upper Austria, 260 in Salzburg,
90 in the Tyrol and Vorarlberg (including /5 students at the University
of Innsbruck), and 477 in Carinthia. There are 32,000 Germans of Rumanian
citizenship in the Western zones of occupation, of which 3,700 are located
in the British zone and 2,000 in the French zone. The remainder reside
in the U. S. zone.
7. The only Rumanian organization of a political Character is in the Western
zones of occupation-is Arcayul (Christian Association of Rumanians of
Upper Austria), with headquarters in Line. The president of this group is

this group include Rumanians and a majority of the Germans of Rumanian
citizenship in Upper Austria., This organization is largely under the
influence of the Horia Sima wing of the Iron Guard.
