THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION
1. The Rajiovac Airdrome is located approximately seven kilometers from
Sarajevo, along the main Sarajevo-Zenica-Slavonski Brod highway. The
airdrome is bordered on one side by the railroad track and on the other
by the Bosna River. At present, one bomber regiment, two pursuit
squadrons, and one squadron of trainees are stationed there, as well as
a unit of the non-Commissioned officers' pilot school and an officers,
observation school. Colonel Slobodan Ilic is regimental commander and
13ranko Lazic is ;_olitical commissar.
2, During .7orld 'gar II the airdrome was heavily damaged by the Italians but
was later repaired by the Gervans, who began the construction of cement
runways which were never completed. After the war, the entire instal-
lation was repaired and the section adjoining the river was enlarged.
Reportedly, the field is now in very good condition. The runway is 1,600
meters long and 900 meters wide, and will accommodate several cement
landing strips, the construction of which is reportedly expected to be
finished by the end of 1950. IVinds are generally constant, so that the
general pattern of landings is either from the goniometric station, at
the southerr end of thtr field, toward the 1Sosna River on the northern,
or from the Bosna River toward the goniometric station. Currently, the
runway can be used by the largest aircraft. The field is guarded by a
batall_on of troops, who also uo auxiliary work of an unspecified nature.
3. The airdrome facilities are as follows:
a. Three hangars, with a housing capacity of hh3 medium and small planes.
The two larger hangars, each with a capacity of 16 planes, are quite
:modern and have attached offices, sleeping quarters, and workshop
facilities,
b. A goniometric station, built before the war but recently modernized.
c. A control tower, equipped with modern instruments,
d. One 100,000-liter gasoline tank, equipped with two pumps.
