A new textile plant of 102000 spindles will be opened at Botosani. The equipment for this p7 ant vas furnished by the USSR. Another "textile mill of 102000 spindles, the equipment for which was furnished by the USSR, will shortly go into production at Lugcj. 3. The textile mill at Jilava has raised its daily production of cord for tires from 600 to 1,300 kilograms. An effort is being made to raise production to 1,500 - 2,000 kilograms daily. At the present time the. management of this plant is attempting to substitute artificial silk (viscose) for cotton in the manufacture of cord, on the ground that the silk is more heat resistant than cotton. Large quantities of cotton have recently been shipped to Rumanian t'tile mills from the USSR. The quality of cotton in these recent shipments has improved; fifty percent is of good quality and fifty percent mediocre.
