THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION
i.. The Rumanian Government is pressing the, collectivization of peasant
holdings, especially in Transylvania where the population is more bitterly
opposed to the regime and more active in its opposition. Outbreaks of
violence against the authorities have also taken place in Northern Rumania,
and particularly in the counties of Iasi, Botosani and Romano
2. The peasantry is especially angered by the requirements for the delivery
of grain and produce., Kerosene and matches can be obtained in the
villages only from the cooperatives and the officials charged with the
collection of agricultural produce. A liter of kerosene costing 6.50
:Lei is sold to the peasants for ten eggs. One box of matches costing
three lei is sold for three lei and two eggs. Poultry is taken by force
and ridiculously low prices are paid. Peasants e.,re forbidden to kill
lambs even for the use of their families.
