A sample of the type of Soviet propaganda directed against Turkey, the
United States, and other nations which circulates in the USSR is given
below:
"Turkey is an undeveloped country where the people live in
miserable conditions. All the money and land is in the hands of the
rich, while the poor have nothing. Ire, true democrats, should work
hard to free the poor peonle of Turkey and similar nations from
dominatinn by the rich. The sole aim of all capitalist countries
is to dominate other nations and to crush the lower classes, whereas
our objective is to save the poor people who form the majority in
every country from the tyranny of these capitalist governments.
"We are the leaders of the !:,orld Democrats; the anti-democrats in-
cluding Turkey, France, England, and Italy are led 'by America. At
present, six toren million workers in America are pitifully and
miserably roaming in the streets striving against hunger. In
Turkey also starvation and misery are wide-spread, '.7e must take
every opportunity to save the people of these nations from tyranny
and hunger. In order to do this, we must be prepared and must fill
our stores with reserve food.
"America and her allies are working day and night; they will attack
us because they cannot bear us. That is another reason why we
should be on the alert."
2. The Soviets continue their propaganda along these lines with great in-
tensity. As a result of hearing so much propaganda, the people expect a
war in 1950. The general public does not want a 'ar; the people feel that
if there is another tat' they all vill perjah. Although some ignorant
youths may believe the propaganda circulated through radio, newspapers,
and speeches at public meetings, all the others are convinced that all
other nations are on the side of America and that, if ,-ar came, the Soviets
would lose.
30 The people in the USSR are still suffering from the last war, during
which the loss in livestock reached a rate of 70 per cent. After the
-at', the situation did not improve as quickly as was expected. Morale
on the kolkhozes is lor. beceuse the kolkhozn'tki feel that no 7atider how
CONmuch they work, the government ? ' iministraters reap the profits.
