2. A Nationalist air attack on a Communist stock-nile at Shenchuan (114-08, 22.
32)? on the Sino-British border, caused the loss of cargo worth Hong Kong
(BK) $2.000,000 which tss waiting rail transport to Canton. This inclined
2.000 55-gallon drums of gasoline, 2,000 rolls of gunny sacking, inriustrial
chericals, kerosene, flour, raw rub-ier and medical cotton. These goods,
which were destined for the Communist 4 Field Army, were owned bs- the South
China Trading Corrxrany, a firr organize.l by KK*angtung Governor YEN Chien-yirg
to purchase suuniies in lions Kong for the Corruaists.
3. The attack was announced in advance by Nationalist uamnhlets warning inhabit-
ants to get away from the raiLhee.. The Shenchuan po?nulation moved rcross
into British territory in large numbers, and returned immediately after the
attack. The Nationalist bombing destroyed only military objectives, %`3owing
previously unknown skill and causing a local rumor that the pilots were not
Chinese.
