THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION 1. Ectremists and arm d gangs in Jakarta and other oitios in Java are cowed by the Tent-era *asiona1 Indonesia (TITI). According to one active in the black .market, two weeks ago there was an average of six daytime robberies a day in Dove. Town Jakarta. Since the TNI took over there has not been a single robbery. So far TNI troops have proved to be well disciplined and business- like. 2e Communists in Jakarta still appear not. to be sufficiently organized or to have funds enough to cause trouble on a large scale. Their aotivities are confined to setting up local labor unions and instigating minor strikes. To date no non-Communist labor federation has shown enough interest in Jakarta labor to curb Communist development in this field, 3. The slight evidence of enthusia_nis for PfAO Tse-tung in certain Chinese circles two months ago is less evident today. There were almost no Chinese Communist flags flown in Chinese quarters during the holidays. Several Chinese Nat' ionalist flags were displayed, Most of the Chinese are afraid to take a positive stand in this matter until the attitude of the Republik Indonesia Serikat (RIS) on the subject is olarified. If the RIS is anti-VAO-Tse-tune the Chinese in Indonesia will adopt this attitudes Now almost all of the local born Chinese are claiming Indonesian citizenships 4,. Enthusiasm among extremists for the Darul Islam In the Jakarta area seems to have diminished somewhat since the TNI took over. 5. s an interest in New Guinea is noticeably less than it was two weeks 25X1C ago Hany Eurasian houses in Batavia and Buitenzorg are now flying only the ndonesian flag. 25X1 C FIDE ' V0n1cE: THJS DISTRBUTJON LSTiNG MUST Bit EXCISED BEFORE PUBLIC RJ.EASE OF THIS DOCUMENT. 25X1A _ ; _ STATE A x NAVY X NSRB DISTRIBUTION ARi~7Y tJX AfR X FBI CLASSIFICATION 7...._A_T_4ON RQT -use 0 .IAT s nrTLv ' 'Ir
