in the first days of September 1949, more than 4,000 nen, women, and children,
escorted by armed XVD guards, were in transit through the Brest-Litovsk station.
In Brest,, they were made to alight from the trains and were subjected to a
thorough search. Then they were made to ascend into freight cars, and the
men were separated frox the women and children. Their baggage was sorted,
examined carefully, and burned.
