1. In honor of tho forrrsation of the now government a three-day holiday v
deolared for Tientsin. with parades and continuous coa1obraation, New flags
had to be displayed by all stores and business officoa.
2. A armor of each Chinoso faiily was required to tnko part in each parade.
3. At public neetin,;a and during parades the USSR flog was prominently dis-
plaa, d as were pictures of I1AO Too..tung and Stalin side by side. 11epro-
aontati.vea of the USSR ono from Peiping to speak at publio meetings. Con-
cern was expressed by sonso Chinese that a picture of Stalin was displayed
above those of Chinese Communist loaders.
4. Picttuva wore not aalloriod to be taken without permits, whioh more inpoesiblo
to obtain.. One American was arrested for taking pictures; his film was
confiscated and he vas later released. _
