The activation of the Confederacion de Trabajadores Salvadorenos (CTS)
will be the first actual "mobilization of the left" to take place in
El Salvador according to Manuel Prieto, Secretary of Organization of
the Executive Committee of the Asociacion de Trabajadores Salvadorenos
Organizados (AT50). Prieto, charged with the responsibility of bringing
the CTS into being, stated that Vicente Lombardo Toledano's Confederacion
de Trabajadores de America Latina (CTRL) would play a vital role in
formulating the policy of the new organization, Present plans call for
a delegation from the ATSO to visit Guatemala and Mexico to discuss
organizational matters with Confederacion de Trabajadores de Guatemala
and CTAL functionaries in those countries.
The national convention of the Comite de heorganizacion Opera (CR0) and
ATSO affiliates in San Salvador which is being held to implement plans for
the setting up of CTS is tentatively scheduled to convene on 10-12 October
1949. Prieto stated that CRO committees in San Miguel, Santa Ana,
Ahuachapan, and Sonsonate have reported satisfactory progress in their
mobilization of workers in those cities, and unless the government refuses
permission to hold the convention, it will be held at the time stated.
