1. Communist successes in China are having a profound effect on the
local Chinese. Pictures of CHI4NG Kai-shek, which formerly hung in
almost every Chinese home and office, have now disappeared. Source
fears that the Chinese here will be lulled into thinking trft O Tse-tung
is a great Chinese leader.
2. The rapid spread of Communism via Chinese channels is imminent. This
will have the support of Indonesian leftist and Communist groups, who
are anti-Dutch and anti-United States.
The strengthening of the Indonesian political structure with Dutch and
American support is needed at once to stabilize the situation and to
counter Communist moves.
